PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1870-

Blacksmith's Arms

Latest 1892

63 Palace Road / 1 North Road

Bromley

Above Google image, April 2018, showing number 1 North Road as being the central house. Number 2 is to the right. The house on the left may well have been the forge area.

This was a beer-shop, operating in mid-Victorian times with the name of the "Blacksmith's Arms" and it had its own forge. I assume the licensee would have been a blacksmith by trade as well as the licensee, probably leaving his wife to run the premises whilst he was at work in the forge.

In 1870 the address would have been 63 Palace Road, but it was re-numbered later to 1 North Road in 1874.

Unfortunately it went out of business in 1892.

The "White Horse" which can be traced back to 1871 is situated opposite and addressed as 64 Palace Road.
