Market Place

Bromley

Built some time prior to 1662 when it would have been situated next door to 24 Market Place. According to E L S Horsburgh’s book on Bromley, Robert Kinge occupied the inn from 1662-1668 and issued tokens (when small change was hard to come by, inns would manufacture their own tokens). According to the Parish Register, Robert Kinge died on 13 April 1668.

Information from the Bromley Library Archives stats that Richard Wilson Willed the property to his wife Suzan in 1646. Another Lease by Mrs Susanna Melville to John Dyer refers to the property called the ‘Crosse Keys’ dated 13 May 1700 together with an entry in the Parish accounts concerning 'wharfing at the Cross Keys’.

William Baxter in his series on the old inns of Bromley states that the sign consisted of the crossed keys of St Peter. (The Parish Church of Bromley is also known as St Peter’s).

Lascoe was the owner at the start of 1700.
