PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1776-

Swan

Latest 1776+

(Name to?)

Park Gate

Broomfield

Only the one instance of this found to date and I have a suspicion but no proof yet that this later changed name to the "Park Gate" later addressed as Hollingbourne.

From the Kentish Gazette 7 August 1776.

Last Saturday evening as Mr. Pearson, who kept the "Swan" at Park-gate, in Broomfield, was returning from Faversham, his horse flung him, and his foot hanging in the stirrup, he received several kicks and was found dead next morning in Hollingbourne, about two miles from his own house. The Coroner from Maidstone, with his Inquest, took a view of the body on Monday, and brought in their verdict accidental death.
