Sydenham Times, 22 July 1862.

Charles Meacher, residing at 4, Prospect-cottages, West-Kent Park, was charged at the Greenwich Police Court, before D. Maude, Esq., on Wednesday, 16th inst., with knowingly tendering a counterfeit half-crown at Mr. Darke's, "Swiss Cottage Tavern," West Kent Park, Forest Hill.

The accused, in his defence, stated that on the previous evening he changed a sovereign at Mr. Darke’s house, and among the silver was the counterfeit half-crown, and he considered he had a right to pass it from whence he took it, and accordingly tendered it at the bar where he received it.

The accused, who is respectably connected and received an excellent character from his master, was bound over to appear on Wednesday next.
