PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1665-

Archer

Latest 1665+

Deptford

Above showing both side of the half-penny token stamped WILLIAM ARCHER around an Archer on one side and IN DEPTFORD 1665 around HIS HALF PENY on the other

Possibly but not necessarily an Inn but could have been the tokens used for another tradesman's shop, a lot of these were used for a Grocer's trade in the period.

I do not know whether the name of the building would have been known as the Archer, but the head of the house certainly was.

The Arms shown could just be a Guild Crest and not Arms as is public house, as these tokens were popular for both types of establishments during the mid 17th century, and were used to pay for goods in the premises named.
