Only the one instant of this found to date where it was described as being a "Common Lodging House" a good deal of these being licensed.

 

From the Southeastern Gazette, 2 January 1866.

At the magistrates room, on Saturday, before Sir P. H. Dyke, Bart., Edward Huggins, a tramp, was charged with breaking a pane of glass, value 6d., the property of Henry Parris, at the “King William” lodging house, on the 29th Dec.

Fined 2s. 6d., 6d. damage, and 5s. costs; committed for seven days in default.
