Preston Hill Wingham
The website Zoopla (accessed 11 March 2025) have identified this premises as at one time being a public house call the "Stag." Their description is as follow:- Holly Cottage is situated towards the northern edge of the popular and pretty village of Wingham, on Preston Hill and enjoys far reaching views over orchards and farmland to the west. At one time during the 19th Century Holly Cottage was an ale house called the "Stag." It is a detached period cottage probably dating back to the 18th Century, sympathetically extended by the vendor about 20 years ago. It is a three\four bedroomed property with mainly brick elevations under a tiled roof. It stands on a plot that is just under a quarter of an acre. In addition there is 1.44 Ha (3.56 Acres) of mixed woodland lying to the rear of the cottage. This can be sold with the cottage or separately. The accommodation comprises sitting room, dining room, kitchen, pantry room, 3 bedrooms, study/4th bedroom, shower room and downstairs cloakroom. The Ordinance Survey map of 1870 shows the building but doesn't give an indication of it being a public house, so perhaps it had ceased by this year. That's all the information I know about this one at present, and hopefully further details will appear.
