PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1660s-

Unknown Name

Latest 1660s+

Deptford

Half penny token undated

Above showing both side of the half-penny token stamped IAMES WATTERS IN around HIS HALF PENY on one side and DEPTFORD MEALMAN around some scales.

Half penny token of James Watters

Another half-penny token found also undated, similar to top token.

Possibly but not necessarily an Inn but could have been the tokens used for another tradesman's shop, a lot of these were used for a Grocer's trade in the period. The scales seems to suggest this to be so. A mealman usually being a Corn Dealer.

The Arms shown could just be a Guild Crest and not Arms as is public house, as these tokens were popular for both types of establishments during the mid 17th century, and were used to pay for goods in the premises named.
