PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1666-

Unknown Name

Latest 1666+

Chatham

Above showing both side of the farthing token stamped RICHARD CRESWELL 1666 on one side and MEALMAN IN CHATHAM on the other.

Not sure whether this was a public house or not, location unknown. A Mealman was a person who dealt in meal and grain such as oats, so this could have been a corn merchants token.

The Arms shown could just be a Guild Crest and not Arms as is public house, as these tokens were popular for both types of establishments during the 17th century, and were used to pay for goods in the premises named.
