PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1660s-

Whit Lyon

Latest 1660s+

Deptford

Above showing both side of the farthing token stamped MATHEW IESSON AT THE around the symbol of a Lion, and on the reverse WHIT LYON IN DEPFORD around the letters M I.

Possibly but an Inn but could have been the tokens used for another tradesman's shop, a lot of these were used for a Grocer's trade in the period.

The Arms shown could just be a Guild Crest and not Arms as is public house, as these tokens were popular for both types of establishments during the mid 17th century, and were used to pay for goods in the premises named.

I also have reference to another "White Lion" addresses as 87 Charles Street, but not dated as early. It is not known whether there is any connection between the two.
