East Peckham map 1968

Above map 1868.

There have been two pubs with this name in East Peckam, the original being situated at Snoll Hatch and the other one originally known as the "Mitre," but changed its name to the "Merry Boys" in 1936.

From the Maidstone Journal, 21 November 1797.

On Monday, the 4th day of December 1797, between the hours of two and four in the afternoon, at the "Merry Boys," near Snoll Hatch, in East Peckham, (subject to such conditions of sale as shall be then produced, unless previously disposed of by private contract, of which the earliest notice will be given.)

All that Messuage, Tenement, or Farmhouse, with suitable out-buildings; and all that Butcher's shop, with all the conveniences thereunto belonging, and all those several pieces or parcels of land, arable, meadow, and pasture to the said premises belonging and adjoining near thereto, containing in the whole 12A, 2R, 0P, more or less, heretofore in the occupation of William Fordham deceased, and now of his widow Mrs. Jenny Fordham, her undertenants or assignees.

It is unnecessary to say more in commendation of the premises that they are admirably calculated for carrying on the Farming and Butchering businesses; and that the land lies in the richest tract of the parish of East Peckham.

It will be expected that the purchaser should take the effects on the premises (except household goods) at the appraisement in the customary manner.

For particulars enquire of Mr. Scoones, Tonbridge; or Mr. Lambert, East Peckham.
