From the Borough of Greenwich Free Press, 18 July 1863.

William Austen, a Hawker, of Hanover Court, Long Acre, was charged with passing a bed half crown at the "New Castle Arms," New Cross Road.

James Osborne, landlord of the above public house, said the prisoner came in and was served with a glass of six-penny ale, for which he tended a bad half-crown.

Mr. Maude remanded the prisoner till Thursday.
