Pigot's Directory 1839 mentions a "Bell Tap" situated at the "Quay."
Tap's were usually public houses attached to a hotel, and this one came
under the "Taverns and Public House" part of the Pigot's Directory.
This was obviously the tap to the "Bell
Family and Commercial Hotel."
