The earliest mention I have found with this name was in St. James's Street from the 1545 sensus and mentioned in "Annuals of Dover" by John Bavington Jones (1916). The licensee being John Stockholm and the premises having 3 beds.

 

From the Kentish Post or Canterbury News-Letter, April 3 to 6, 1751.

Advert for pupils by a teacher, living in Bench street, near the Black Bull in Dover.

I assume this to be the same pub as above and tells me that it was still there till 1751, more than 200 years after the first mention below.
