Holmsdale Brewery of Sevenoaks

117 High Street

Sevenoaks

The Holmsdale Brewery, that was situated at 117 High Street, founded by John Samuel Bligh in 1868 and taken over by Watney, Combe, Reid and Co in 1911. This would have been one of the 27 tied houses on their books.

From the Kent and Sussex Courier, Friday 13 February 1874.

Fire at the Holmesdale Brewery.

About 5 o'clock, on Wednesday afternoon, a fire was discovered in one of the storage sheds at the Holmesdale Brewery. It appears that two men were working about the shed, and on going inside they lit the gas, which instantly ignited a large quantity of straw, which had been put under the felt roof to keep the place warm. An alarm was quickly given, and a number of the Town Fire Engine Association, under the direction of Mr. T. Hancock, were soon on the spot, and succeeded in putting the fire out, before any damage was effected, besides the burning of the straw and roof. We believe that Mr. John Bligh, the owner of the premises, is fully insured in the Royal Exchange Office.
