Originally the "Dolphin" this pub changed name to the "Bricklayers Arms" and back to the "Dolphin" again. More research needed as to when the changes took place, but the building can be traced back to 1642.

Thanet Advertiser, Saturday 30 May 1891.

SANDWICH. Drowned in the River Stour.

A young man named James Iggleden, 22 years of age, a native of Whitstable, and mate of the barge Nellie Maud, of Rochester, which is at present lying in the Sandwich Haven, was accidentally drowned on Tuesday night. He left the "Brickmakers' Arms at eleven o'clock, proceeding to the quay in company wish the mate of the barge Why Not, the two intending to proceed in the same boat to their respective vessels. Mr. Romney, watchmaker, was attracted to the back of his premises in Strand-Street by the noise the men were making, and at half-past eleven he saw the deceased jump from the quay towards the beat. He, however, jumped over it, falling quite clear of it into the water. It was low tide at the time. His companion endeavoured to render assistance, but the deceased did not rise to the surface again. The captain of the vessel reported the case to the police on Wednesday morning, and the Surveyor and P.O. Blair proceeded to drag the river, recovering the body about eleven o'clock.
