Earliest 1802

British Tar

Latest 1816

Deal

Only mention of this public house to date has been from some hand written archives kept at Deal library, where the "British Tar" was mentioned, somewhere in Lower Street, and the licensee called Harry Wood from the "Public Houses 1804 April Valuation list." No value was given for the property.

Further research has shown a report given  in the Deal Borough Records Sessions Book dated 17 June 1808 - H. Wood - "British Tar" beer-house - 2 Quart Pots short measure.

Glover and Rodgers book "The Old Pubs of Deal and Walmer" states the pub changed name around 1816 to become the "Queen's Head."
