PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1974-

Cavalier

Latest 1974+

Wingham

I found mention of a "Cavalier" in Wingham, but to date, no address, in the Dover and East Kent Division of Justices On Licences, 1974.

The owners were B & P Gill and the licensee Edward Elliott.

At present, I do not know whether this was a public house or restaurant.

From an email sent 5 October 2010.

I have been looking at your site on old pubs in east Kent and noticed the name Gill as owner of a Cavalier pub in Wingham. In about the early 70s there was a nice restaurant run by a Mr. Gill, Eric, I believe, though I have no recollection of a "Cavalier". The restaurant was on a site later occupied by an Indian restaurant, though I couldn't tell you what's there now since I left Britain in the mid 70s. It was about 50 metres before, and on the other side of the road from, what used to be a garage and where the Canterbury-Sandwich bus used to stop; i.e. on the Canterbury/Red Lion side of the old chemist's, now Elgar estate agents, I believe. I don't remember it looking particularly like your typical pub.

Regards,

Carole Chassagnar.
