During the 1980s this used be known as "Cassidy's Cavern" and it has been suggested that after that period it was called the "Sub Club" for a short period.

Chris Smith has passed on information that tells me that the "Sub Club" opened in 96 or 97. He thinks that "Cassidy's" closed 3 years prior. He also told me that "Phoenix Tea Rooms" was there in the late Seventies. Oh, by the way, Cassidy's / Cassidy's Cavern was a restaurant, not a pub.

Any further information or indeed photographs would be appreciated. Please email me at the address below.

CIDER FESTIVAL

Cider fans are invited to a summer festival to enjoy what organisers say is the “appley wonder juice”.

The "Chambers" Summer Cider Weekend starts today (Thursday) in Cheriton Place and will continue until Monday, or “when the drinks run out,” according to owner Chris Smith.

The range of ciders will be from Kentish producers and live music and food will also be on offer over the four days.

The festival is the first of its type being held at "Chambers" in August for ten years.
