A J Langridge's research in 1977 mentions that this pub was situated in Primrose Alley circa 1680. Primrose Alley is next to the "Beachbrow Hotel", off Beach Street, Deal, and going into Middle Street car park near the library.

As shown below the premises was refused a license in 1868 but it is unknown whether it had previously held one.

Further research shows reference to the "Chequers" at 1 Primrose Hill from 1869 to between 1873-75 when it was discontinued as a beerhouse.

George Makins was refused a licence for the "Chequers," in Middle Street.

PETTY SESSIONS

Maria Tingrove, an occasional visitor at this court, was brought up and charged with breaking 8 squares of glass at the "Chequers" beerhouse, 1 Primrose Hill, Middle Street, kept by George Hills Mackins.

Sentenced to 6 weeks hard labour.
