I have only just started to research into this area of Kent and I am
hoping to be able to update this page with further information later.
Further
local knowledge and any pictures, old or current would be appreciated until
I can get into the area myself.

From the Kentish Gazette, 19 December 1865.
Burglary.
Early on Thursday morning a burglary was perpetrated at the "Cinque
Ports Arms," kept by Mr. George Maycock. About two o’clock Mrs.
Maycock was awoke by hearing a noise below. She immediately jumped
out of bed, without waiting for a light, and rushed down stairs. On
reaching the bottom she heard a pattering of feet, the burglars
being without shoes. They swiftly passed by her in the direction of
the back part of the house; but having no light she was prevented
from seeing who they were. On alarming those in the house, they made
an inspection, and found that an entry had been effected by opening
the lower back room window. The bar door being locked, the burglars
had forced out the hinges to gain an entrance, and it is believed
that this noise awoke Mrs. Maycock. The burglars were no doubt
disturbed at their work rather too soon for them, as nothing was
found to be touched, and Mrs. Maycock going down stairs caused them
to beat a hasty retreat. A number of lucifer matches were found in
the passage.
