PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1740-

Coach and Horses

Latest 1740+

 River

Only reference found so far is in the Wingham Division Ale Licence list, which shows the "Coach and Horses," River, to be re-licensed for the sum of 8 shillings on 4th September 1740 indicating that the pub was present before 1740.

Around the 1740 period I don't think there would have been many houses in the River area, although the church and a settlement can be traced back to as early as 1066, so I am going to assume the pub was fairly close to St. Peter and Paul's Church.
