Crown Inn

Latest 1768

236-238 Church Path

1-2 Ivy Cottages, Stony Path/Gravel Walk

Upper Deal

I have found mention of this pub from a list of former pubs of Deal and Walmer at Deal library. To date I have no further information regarding this establishment, not even a date.

The original research was carried out by A. L. Langridge in 1977 and says the information has been unconfirmed and with no less than 4 other pubs in the area with the same name confusion can occur.

According to Glover and Rogers, the pub was situated near to the junction with London Road and had originally been two cottages. The earliest reference being in some deeds of 1678 saying "now and lately known as the Crown." The property was sold by William Woodruff in 1768 to William Gurney of Deal but it also said that the premises herefore known as the Crown was unattended at that time.

The building is now a private house.
