Excelsior at St Margarets Bay

Above picture shows the Excelsior tea garden and restaurant at St. Margaret's Bay.

I don't believe this building ever held a liquor license, but I'm including it as it was certainly a place for refreshment.

The Excelsior Tea Rooms and Garden is sited at the bottom of the Zig-Zag steps to the Bay from The Leas, it was built in 1905, the dormer windows were added in 1907 and the words on the roof by 1924 - it was run by Mrs Ellen Morse (which surname figures largely in Reach Manor documents from the mid 1700's onwards, but not sure if connected with this Mrs Ellen Morse.)

All these people alive in the period 1841 to 1901 are listed on the 10 yearly census returns (copies in Dover Reference Library but transcribed and indexed by St Margaret's History Society Archivist.
