From an email sent to me from Patricia Bailey, 1
February,
2009.
My grandfather William Henry Marsh was the publican from 1909 until his
death in WWI 30 September 1916. I notice that you have a Webb listed after
that. As I understand it Ernie and Edith Webb managed the pub on behalf of
my grandmother after that but I believe she was actually the Licensee at the
time and only left in 1922 to move back to Folkestone. Her name was Mildred
Emma Marsh. My mother Florence was only one year old when her parents took
over the pub and my uncles William Henry Percival Marsh and Reginald William
Marsh were both born there. Sadly William died aged six months of what would
now be called a cot death.
I am attaching photos of my grandfather William Henry and grandmother
Mildred Emma. My daughter has a photo of the pub itself and I will endeavour
to forward a copy to you at a later date.
Yours sincerely
Patricia Bailey
