Twelve Stars

Ramsgate

Above postcard, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe.

Rory says:- I was sent this image, which shows part of Ramsgate seafront in rough seas. The (presumably, a lock-up) structure, just to the right of centre, appear to be selling ...beers. All seems fine but was this really a c.1930s lock-up "micropub" or some type of seasonal concession, called the 12 Stars?

Hmmm.... My personal jury is out on this one!

Michael Mirams says the following:- "Pretty sure this one was just a seasonal pub, must admit I’d not come across it before. It’s on the site of the beer garden of the seasonal "Marina Tavern," which later became the "Gay Cavalier," a Tomson & Wotton house which closed in 1968. It’s possible the "12 Stars" was a temporary bar, judging by the ‘shed appearance’, perhaps while alterations to the main pub were taking place. Despite the awful weather in the photo, there are a heck of a lot of people around, so I’m pretty sure it’s a summertime shot. Don’t know where they got the name from, though. Hope this helps."
