Concordans Sevenoaks?
The above sign has kindly been sent to me from Brian Curtis who says it was taken in September 1983 and said to have been hanging outside a pub in the Sevenoaks area. However, at present I have no information about this.
I have finally out that the Concordans sign was actually hung outside the "Chequers" pub on the High Street in Sevenoaks. I believe it was a double-sided sign with the reverse using the English word "Chequers." Concordans is actually a Dutch word meaning a translation table that provides you with a numbering system for counting. As the original use of a chequer board or checker board in English was as a means of counting money (hence the Chancellor of the Exchequer) – this makes perfect sense. Brian Curtis
