The above pub has recently been advertised on ebay and states that
the original is a large 10" x 8" photo print of an old coach/charabanc
outside a pub and passengers with flat caps and chrysanthemum
buttonholes. Probably a works outing from the Dover area, as this was
where it was found, originally framed. Date circa 1920s.
It has been suggested that this is the "Diamond" but I
don't think that is correct as the building doesn't look correct.
Actually, with the following information I don't now believe this is
Dover but could be Whitstable way.

From an email received 20 May 2020.
I was looking at your pub photos
and see the above photo outside a pub with a charabanc. The man in the
centre of the photo (slightly fatter with a paler suite) bears a
resemblance to a relative - Percy Reed - who used to run a coach
company. He was based in Birchington, I have a photo of him with a horse
drawn coach, but perhaps he moved on to this.
Percy died in Bridge in 1952.
Best regards,
Sandra Heard.

Above photo, of the "Swingate" late 1890s, kindly sent by Sandra Heard. The Gentleman
standing next to the coach third from right with the longish beard is
Thomas Benjamin Reed b. 1836 near Wye, Kent. His family ran a coaching
business out of Birchington/Whitstable from late 1800s to early 1900s.
|
Above photo is of his son Percy Reed's Coaching business, not sure of
any of the named people in the photo, however the rather portly gent
holding the horses, bears a great resemblance to the person in the Third
photo, standing in front of the coach..... but I don't think this is
Percy Reed.
By the way, above pub, is also unknown as "Unknown
Pub 108."
