PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell's House.

Hastings

Sussex

Unknown 89

Above photo, 1955, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe.

Another one from Rory Kehoe, who says he got this photo with an email, which read "Taken around 1955 and in a collection of Kent photos," so it may be a pub in Kent, or it may have simply slipped in." The pic/pub looks annoyingly familiar!

Local knowledge required again please.

Michael Mirams has come up trumps again, and says the following:- It’s Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell's House in All Saints Street in Hastings (nearly Kent I suppose!) I don’t think it was ever actually a pub, I know it was Shovall’s Mum’s house, and it’s not mentioned at all in either of two editions of Pubs of Hastings & St. Leonards by David Russell which I have. Seems it has a ‘sign’ purely to promote the house’s famous connection.
