Sholden
Only reference found so far is in the Wingham Division Ale Licence list, which shows the "Five Horse Shoes," Sholden, to be re-licensed for the sum of 8 shillings in 1740 indicating that the pub was present before 1740. However, with there being a "Three Horse Shoes" in a nearby village at Great Mongeham and being of the same age, I did wonder whether the above was a mistake but further research shows the two pubs on the same list and with different licensees. I guess this pub, being so close, tried to outdo the other with two extra shoes.
