Bagshaw Directory 1847 mentions a "Globe" that stood in Strand Street in that year.

I have found no other mention of this pub after that year so far. That is until the following email arrived.

Kentish Gazette, 9 July 1844.

Valuable FREEHOLD PUBLIC HOUSES, at Sandwich, Word, Deal, Sutton, Northbourne, and Great Mongeham, in the County of Kent,

TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION, AT the "Three Horse Shoes," GREAT MONGEHAM, on THURSDAY, the 25th day of JULY, 1844, (unless previously disposed of by Private Contract, of which due notice will be given), subject to such conditions as will be then and there produced, in several Lots.

Also a FREEHOLD PUBLIC HOUSE, called the "Globe," situate in Strand Street, in the parish of Saint Clement, SANDWICH, with the outhouses yard and appurtenances thereto belonging, now in the occupation of Mr. Joshua France.

The above Property forms a most desirable investment, and (if not forthwith Sold by Private Contract), will be offered for sale in convenient Lots, as will be expressed in future advertisements.

For Particulars, and to treat for the Purchase by Private Contract, apply at the Offices of Mr. Mourilan, Solicitor, Sandwich.

From an email received 9 April 2012.

According to the 1851 Census, Francis Jezzard (Born circa 1825) was a Publican living in Strand Street with his wife Elizabeth (nee Farley) and two children Frank (1850) and Elizabeth (1848). The census just shows Strand Street and doesn't mention the pub. However Francis's father was William Jezzard (Born in circa 1774 and died in December 1852) which rather neatly ties in with your information?

I feel that Francis may perhaps have taken over from his father? Unfortunately the 1851 census shows William as a Blacksmith, not a publican.

Regards,

John Kimber

The premises is now addressed as 13-15 Strand Street.
