Situated next to Black Griffin Lane the building on this site can be traced back to 1610 when the pub was called the "Bull." However, some time after 1610 it changed name to the "Griffin" and by 1810 the name had been extended to the "Black Griffin" around about 1820s. Although further documents found suggest that the names "Griffin" and "Black Griffin" were interchanged depending on the paper reporting.
