PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1740-

Horse's Head

Latest 1861+

Black Robbin's Corner

Barham

Only reference found so far is in the Wingham Division Ale Licence list, which shows the "Horse's Head," Barham, to be re-licensed for the sum of 8 shillings in 1740 indicating that the pub was present before 1740. Further research has shown this as below and also found in Bagshaw Directory 1847.

From the Kentish Gazette, 15 December 1846.

VALUABLE UNDERWOOD,

TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION, BY MESSRS, COLLARD AND ASHENDEN, ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1852, at the "Horse Head," public-house, in the parish of BARHAM, at Three o'clock in the afternoon precisely.

About 7 Acres of UNDERWOOD, lying in the Harbour Wood, belonging to the Honourable the Warden and Commissioners of Dover Harbour.

The Wood will be sold in small lots for the convenience of purchasers.

Further particulars may he obtained of the Auctioneers, Canterbury, or of the landlord of the "Horse Head" Public House, who will show the Falls.

Westgate, Nov. 1, 1852.

The above address of Black Robin's Corner suggests that the pub was actually in Kingston. The other pub in Kingston, the "Black Robin" cannot be the same pub as this as both were named in the 1740 list.

However, further research also suggests that the house could well be "Horsehead Farm" situated near Grooms Cottage in Covet Woods, south of the Cover Lane which is sort of an extension to Black Robin Lane.
