Kelly's directory of 1899 says no more other than that:- "The Leas Hotel" is near the Leas.

Folkestone. Fatal Bathing accident.

On Wednesday morning, a young man named Martin, valet 2 Lord Folkestone, who is staying at the "Lees Hotel" in this town, was drowned whilst bathing halfway between Folkestone and Sandgate. The sea was very rough at the time. The body was recovered in the evening between 6 and 7. And inquest was held yesterday, and the jury returned a verdict of "Accidentally Drowned."
