There is also a "Newington near Hythe" I have decided to add information as well as photos, when I find or acquire it. Your help is appreciated.

The "Leigh Arms" ought to be "Legh Arms," named after Edward de Legh, the last owner of the manor house. The house was demolished to provide access to the station (1862) and the road was called Legh Street, later renamed Station Road.

Now another one unfortunately closed but not yet sure when and being used for residential purposes.

From the London Gazette, 11 September, 1868.

The said Registrar is the Official Assignee, and William Webb Hayward, of Rochester, is the Solicitor acting in the bankruptcy.

From the London Gazette, 3 December, 1869.

William Akhurst, of the "Leigh Arms,"  Newington-juxta-Sittingbourne, in the county of Kent, Licensed Victualler and Labourer and Rag Dealer, adjudicated bankrupt on the 8th day of September, 1868.
