Martin Cloughton says:- "The little lad sticking his head right up in the air with the black blazer and white collared shirt is John Gravenell and sitting next to him is his cousin Bernard Satchel and I'm sure that Joe Gearing is standing in the crowd."

Off license Queens Road 2017

Nothing yet known about this premises which the sign says is an Off License. Local knowledge appreciated.

Ray Newman says:- The off licence would be what is now the shop in Queens Road opposite Shaftsbury Drive, the lighter building is what was the working mens club which later became the "Saxon Chief," the pub was demolished a while back now not long after the murder where the landlord stabbed his wife.

Further information says during the second world war and just after, it was known as Lovelands, possibly after the owners name. In the 1980s it was known as the "Saxon Maid." I am also informed it was also called "Maid Marions" at one time as well.
