From the Dover Express 3 June 1999 by Terry Sutton. Ground floor of 'old brewery is transformed into club for 300
AN exclusive club is set to open in Dover in the autumn - Club AJs. Tony Edge, 36, hopes to open the private members club on the ground floor of The Old Brewery in Dolphin Passage, one of the oldest thoroughfares in the town, off Castle Street. He said the ground floor was being renovated. The beauticians' business would continue on the floor above. "It will be a private members' club with a membership aimed at around 300. "We would hope to have up to 75 members at the centre at anyone time," said Mr Edge, who is managing director of the owners, Kent Club Company. Mr Edge - the club's name is taken from his initials - said the aim was to open in September or October, but he accepted that would depend on the granting of a licence by magistrates. Kent Club Company is engaged in property investment and development and is planning to open public houses, bars and clubs throughout Kent. The group BFN, established in Rochester, employs around 100 staff in Kent. |
