DOVER WAS MORE SOBER IN 1970
A Decrease in convictions for drunkenness and drunken driving shot
down in the Dover area.
This was good news reported by Dover's Chief Superintendent of Police
Mr. Robert Marsden, at the annual licensing sessions held at Dover
Magistrates' Court in the Town Hall on Tuesday.
There were only 11 convictions for drunkenness in the recent year
compared with 20 in the previous 12 months. No women were prosecuted.
Last year 23 drivers were convicted for drunken driving but in the
current year only 13 were prosecuted.
NEW LICENSES
Mr. Marsden reported that only two prosecutions were brought this
year against publicans serving people under age.
"Licensees have conducted themselves extremely well," he said.
Two new off-licenses, one full-on and two restaurant licenses were
granted, one for a Chinese restaurant in the High Street and the other
for a canteen at the Eastern Docks.
We congratulate everyone concerned with the report, said the Chairman
of the Magistrates Mr. Robert Barwick.
