Drink yobs given a yellow card.

FORTY-FIVE people have been given yellow card warnings in a crackdown on drink-fuelled crime.

The scheme was launched six weeks ago. Anyone arrested for a drink-related offence is given a warning, or yellow card.

Twenty-five people given a yellow card have been issued with £80 fines. A further 11 have gone before magistrates on alcohol-related charges.

One man received a follow-up red card just eight days after his first warning and has been banned from many of the town’s pubs.

Under the “three-stikes” scheme, he has also been warned that he risks an antisocial behaviour order if he commits any more drink-related offences.

Drink-drive brickie’s ban.

A BRICKLAYER has found himself out of work after police caught him driving while over the alcohol limit, a court heard.

Craig Pluck, 25, of Swingfield, told Folkestone magistrates last Wednesday that being banned from driving had cost him his livelihood as he needed a van for work.

Pluck, appearing for sentencing after admitting the offence at a previous hearing, was banned from driving for three years.

Ruth Dalziell, prosecuting, told the court that police stopped Pluck at about 11pm on Sunday, November 6 driving a Ford Escort van on Beachborough Road, Folkestone.

Officers smelt alcohol on his breath and asked him to do a roadside breath test.

He failed and was taken to the police station. A urine sample was found to have 142 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine where the legal limit is 107.

Hugh Roberts, defending, said: “He was only just over the limit and didn’t feel his driving was impaired. This has had very serious consequences for him.”

He said Pluck had been unable to travel for work since during a temporary ban between his court appearances. Magistrates banned Pluck from driving for three years and ordered him to pay a £40 fine and £43 costs.
