Previous to this name the pub was called the "Charity Inn" and stems back to 1740 and possibly earlier. The building itself being 16th century.

During the 1990s and certainly in 1996 the pub was renamed the "Poacher" for some reason, but by 2002 it had again reverted back to the "Charity" again
