Prince of Orange in Alkham

This picture above in the early 1920's shows children outside the Marquis shop. In the background on the right is the Prince of Orange, which later changed its name to the first "Marquis of Granby" and later became the Post Office.

 

1770 shows this property to be selling beer from the James Walker brewery of Dover. Situated in the cottage that once stood between the current "Marquis of Granby" and the churchyard. About this time the name was changed to the "Marquis of Granby" but is not the one that stands nearby today.

In 1796, John Collard, William's son-in-law, and related to Thomas Collard of the "Fox and Goose."
