8 York Terrace Westcliff Ramsgate
Described as a beer house in 1847. According to the 1891 census, John Hawkins was the head of the house and described as a shipwright, but William Avery was running the pub and was described as a lodger. The pub used to be the home of the Ancient Order of Tie Chewers. Evidentially a stranger wearing a tie was likely to have the end chewed off by one of the members. the end of which would be displayed on a board and hung on the walls of the pub.
I am informed that the building has been demolished, but don't have a date yet. It is now the site of the multy-storey car park.
