Beefeater diner stabbed himself in the face with a steak knife TWICE after a row with woman at the restaurant.

A man stabbed himself in the face with a steak knife during a drunken row with a woman at a Beefeater pub.

The pair were eating together at the restaurant in Kent when they had a heated argument.

Horrified diners saw the man, 48, slash himself across the face twice on Saturday night as the row escalated.

A witness at the Beefeater restaurant in Ashford said: 'They were sitting at a booth and we heard shouting and swearing.

'They’d been arguing for quite a while and they were both very drunk.

'I don’t know what they were arguing about because they weren’t in earshot, other than when their voices were raised.

'But then the whole restaurant was aware that something was going on. Most tables were occupied, so the restaurant was pretty packed, with kids around as well.

'We thought she had tipped her drink over him, but when he stood up, he had blood all down his face and shirt and two big gashes in his cheeks.'

A man, 48, from Folkestone, Kent, was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed pending further inquiries.

The couple were asked to leave the restaurant. They made their way to a room at the nearby Premier Inn hotel, where the row continued.

Kent Police were called to the hotel 15 minutes after the couple left the restaurant. The 33-year-old woman was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, with minor injuries.
