Serving as a Shepherd Neame house the building is mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 and can be traced back to 1084 as being part of the Chestfield Manor.

The pub was converted into a pub/restaurant the mid-1980s by Johnnie Kray, whose sons managed the business.

The Barn features a striking thatched roof,  with exposed beams, flagstones and original timbers from the Blean Forest. Inside, the restaurant area shows oak beams and can accommodate up to 60 people. Some of the beams are very low indeed. A log fire is usually lit in the winter.

Outside, there is an attractive garden with a huge York stone table and Koi carp pond.

Last used as tea rooms, Shepherd Neame are now serving beers from this Grade II listed building. It gained its listing on 20 May 1977.
