The following passage below from the Shields Daily Gazette of 1890 seem to suggest that this was a different hotel, as in 1890, this "Grand Hotel" would have been known as the "Cliftonville Hydro."

 

Shields Daily Gazette 19 December 1890.

HOTEL DESTROYED BY FIRE. £20,000 DAMAGE.

The "Grand Hotel, adjoining the jetty at Margate, was entirely destroyed by fire, yesterday morning. The inmates escaped in their night-clothes uninjured, except a barmaid, who was hurt by jumping from a window. The loss will probably amount to £20,000.
