Identified in Barry J White's list of Thanet's public houses and hotels 19th and early 20th century. He says this became known as the "Central Hotel."

Thanet Advertiser, Saturday 21 July 1877.

Accident.

On Saturday evening a little boy age 5 years the son of Mr. P. M. Upright, of "Grant's Hotel" was upon the West Pier with some friends, when he got too near the edge, and fell over, striking his head against an iron ring in the wall. He was promptly taken out of the water by a boatman, and conveyed to Mr. Walford's surgery, where the wound on his head was attended to. He was then taken home, and we are glad to hear that the little fellow is not now much the worse for his mishap.
