From the Whitstable Times, 30 June, 1900.

PETTY SESSIONS TUESDAY.

Benjamin Hammond, who said he was a gardener, was charged with obtaining beer by false pretences at the "Greyhound Inn," Ashford, during prohibited hours on Sunday.

On the previous day he had been fined 7s. 6d. for drunkenness, on the same occasion, and the landlady of the Inn now stated that Hammond induced her to serve him with a pint of beer, between 9 and 10 on Sunday morning, by representing that he had travelled from Canterbury.

Sergeant Callaway stated that defendant told him he had come from 35, York Road, Canterbury, but he discovered that he had lodged at 77, Hempsted Street, Ashford. In default of paying a fine of 5s. and 10s. costs, the defendant went to gaol for a week.

Originally the "Rose and Crown" the premises changed name some time between 1869 and 1874.

The premises I am informed since 1972, was being used as a TV repair shop by owner David Easton. The shop closed in 2018.
