Hollicondane / College Road Ramsgate
The Hollicondane area and the neighbouring parish of Hereson, are reputedly named after a sad tale from several hundred years ago. One November afternoon, a farmer noted the skies darkening and asked his son to bring in his flock of sheep. Not long afterwards, the storm broke and heavy snow started falling. The worried farmer rushed out and started shouting "I'm here son! I'm here son!" The boy replied "Holler again! Holler again!" but as the blizzard worsened, the boy's cries grew ever fainter. The next day, the farmer found his son but it was too late, as sadly, the young lad had perished in the freezing weather. Over the years the words "here son" and "holler again" were corrupted into the parish names, Hereson and Hollicondane. Post Office Directory 1874 gives reference to a "Hollicondane" at Hollicondane, St. Lawrence. The pub was situated next to the college and was demolished in 2009.
