Hempstead Road to the west of the town centre was completely demolished in the 1990s, as was part of Tufton Street, to build the Tufton Centre, which opened in 1975 and the enlargement of their car park.

Mr. Wenham stated that he had been unable to serve the summons on the principal witness in the case against Mr. Watts, of the "Invicta Hotel," Ashford, and the case was adjourned for a fortnight.
