This pub changed name in the 1970s to the "Chimney
Boy."
The building gained Grade II listed status on 29 July 1950 and is
described as an 18th century building with two storeys and an attic. As a
Hotel it has been traced as serving beer back to 1871 to date.
In the 1950s, the licensee Mr. Archer used to employ his staff on a
casual basis when he hosted dining functions in the big room, upstairs in
the hotel over what had been the bottling room. The function room stairs
were accessed from the side entrance, opposite what is now (2025) the Co-op
funeral directors.

From the Kentish Gazette, 21 February 1865.
Borough Police. Thursday. (Before the Mayor, and F. W. Monk,
Esq.)
Benjamin George Browning, of Seasalter, grazier, was brought upon
a warrant, charged with having threatened to "do" for Mr. Edwin
Hadlow, the landlord of the "Limes Hotel," Preston Street. It
appeared that the defendant had been to the "Limes Hotel," and
becoming the worse for drink and unruly in his conduct, had been put
out by the police, at the request of the landlord, whom he
threatened; and that he had repeated this conduct several times
lately. Mr. Hadlow now stated on oath that he was in bodily fear
from the threats made use of.
Mr. Johnson attended for the defendant, and regretted that such
an application should have been made to the Bench, as it was caused
solely by the young man drinking too much in Hadlow’s house, who now
came forward with this charge against him, which really was nothing
but mere words uttered in a moment of irritation, whilst under the
influence of drink, and they might very safely pass unnoticed. He,
however, was quite prepared with responsible bail.
The Bench called upon Mr. Browning to be bound over in £20, and
two sureties in £10 each, to keep the peace and be of good behaviour
for three months ensuing. Mr. Pilcher, of the "Railway Tavern,"
Preston-street, and Mr. Fagg, grocer, Market Place, entered into the
required recognizance, and the prisoner was liberated.
The justice room was filled during the proceedings, which
appeared to create much interest among the townspeople.
